Collectibles - what are they

Almost any item can be a collectible -- as long as someone somewhere finds it appealing it has the potential to be a collectible. Any item is collectible if it is desirable, somewhat plentiful and has an identifiable characteristics. Affordability does place a small factor as well.

These can include new items that were created by companies and then marketed specifically to be collectibles or gifts. I refer to these as "manufactured collectibles" because they are manufactured specifically to be collectible. Hummel figurines, Franklin Mint plates, Precious Moments, and even United State Mint Proof sets are some examples of these type of items.
